V14 Ethical Leadership & Decision Making Team — Round Two

As part of the V14 Ethical Leadership & Decision Making Team Round Two, teams will receive a twist to the initial case study and then give a presentation on their research and proposed solution to the twist, in addition to lessons learned, to a panel of judges.

Please pass the following twist along to the team members.

BPA Ethics Case Twist

In response to the podcast hosts’ fears that their podcast is being marketed unethically, Gael offers a potential solution. Gael proposes that Politically (In)Correct donates 10% of pre-tax profit to a nonprofit organization that offers college scholarships to underprivileged students.

Gael thinks this philanthropy will help soften the edgy and provocative brand image the podcast now has. Furthermore, funding college tuition for disadvantaged students ties back to the original aim of the show to encourage educated thought. And as the show’s profit continues to increase thanks to Gael’s bold marketing strategy, the more money those students will have.

The podcast hosts are open to the idea, but they worry that donating to charity will seem like a cheap ploy to distract critics from the show’s controversial online behavior.

Gael argues that donating some profit is still worth a try. But what do you think? Is philanthropy an effective—or ethical—method to improving a company’s digital brand?

V15 — Presentation Judge Access Note

Please note: Judges will only have access to the competitor’s uploaded resume during the presentation. Presentation judges will not have access to the competitor’s full portfolio, but competitors are allowed to use screen sharing to demonstrate any portfolio work or share additional information during the presentation.
